Sandvik DP 1500i Drill Rig

The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), on Friday, 29th July, 2022 received a refurbished Sandvik DP 1500i Drill Rig worth $170,000.00 as donation from Engineers and Planners Company Limited to support practical teaching and learning in the University. The donation which was done by Mr Majeed Abudu, Technical Director, together with some officials of Engineers and Planners was in response to a request of the University for such assistance.

Mr Majeed Abudu, said that many world-class universities and industry players have received worldwide recognition as a result of their collaborations with industry. He indicated that following the outlined strategies of Engineers and Planners to buttress Corporate Social Responsibility, they decided to make the donation to contribute towards the advancement of teaching and learning in the University.

He added that the industry has several interventions to support the University’s teaching, learning and research work hence, the University should explore more partnership opportunities with other industry players to support the provision of teaching and learning facilities.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof Richard K. Amankwah, expressed appreciation of the University to Engineers and Planners and assured that the drill rig will be used for its intended purposes, thus, to train Drilling and Geology Students to equip them with the requisite knowledge and skills in drill rig operation.

Prof Amankwah then commended Assoc Prof Anthony Ewusi, Dean, Faculty of Geosciences and Environmental Studies (FGES), and his team for spearheading the request for the donation.
