Emerson Process Management, a multinational plant manufacturing company has donated a petroleum production process simulator valued at $500,000 to the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa. The equipment, called Emerson PlantWeb Cruiser, is a complete petroleum production simulation model with the state of the art technology and it simulates the various processes of oil and gas production.
The donation which took place at the Accra International Conference Centre, Ghana was witnessed by officials from the University of Mines and Technology and Emerson Process Management.
Mr. Mark Tapson, General Manager of Emerson Process Management Africa presenting the equipment expressed his satisfaction with the University for its efforts to promote knowledge in oil and gas production. He was very optimistic that the equipment would go a long way to boost the training of students and acquisition of knowledge in the field of oil and gas production in Ghana.
He added that Emerson Process Management would provide technical support to the lecturers, instructors and students on the use and maintenance of the equipment at an additional cost of $500,000.
Professor Daniel Mireku-Gyimah, the Vice Chancellor of the University who received the equipment on behalf of the University was full of praise for the kind gesture by Emerson. He described the donation as timely and pledged the University’s commitment to put the equipment to good use to enhance its life span.
He said the equipment would enhance the Petroleum Laboratory of the University and would help in the training of the needed manpower for Ghana’s oil and gas industry. Professor Mireku-Gyimah thanked Emerson Process Management for the donation and hoped that the gesture was going to cement the relations between the two institutions to their mutual benefits and to the benefit of Ghana as well.
The donation was preceded by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the University and Emerson Process Management to formalize the pledge by Emerson’s to provide technical support to the University on the use and maintenance of the cruiser, and the commitment of the University to use the cruiser for the intended purpose.
