Goldfields Ghana Ltd Donates GH¢ 100,000

GOLD FIELDS GHANA LIMITED DONATES GH¢100,000.00 TO UMaT
 

Gold Fields Ghana Limited, a multinational mining company has donated GH¢100,000.0 to the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa. The donation was made to assist the University complete the construction of its Geological Engineering Laboratory and to purchase equipment for the laboratory. The donation took place in the University and was witnessed by officials from the University of Mines and Technology and Gold Fields Ghana Limited.

Dr Tony Aubynn presented a dummy cheque of the said amount on behalf of the company. He said Gold Fields had for the last four years donated US$340,000.00 to the University for various projects. The Company assisted the University to establish of a V-Sat internet facility and had acquired some geological equipment to refurbish the Geological Engineering Laboratory of the University.

Dr Aubyyn added that the assistance from Gold Fields to the University was not because of the proximity of the two institutions but was because of the value both institutions place on excellence in education and performance, and assured the University of Gold Fields’ support to UMaT to make the University a centre of excellence.

Professor Daniel Mireku-Gyimah, the Vice Chancellor of the University, received the donation on behalf of the University and was appreciative for the kind gesture by Gold Fields. He said the donation was very valuable and it would give opportunity for better teaching and learning and improvement of education. Prof. Mireku-Gyimah then assured GoldFields that the money would be put to the intended use.
